The IMF asked the government to increase the price per unit by 5 rupees before July 10.
The lender asked for price hikes for gas and electricity, which are mandatory for the new program. The government of Pakistan requested that the that the IMF lend 8 to 10 billion dollars for a new program, and the government approved the financial bill under all the conditions provided by the IMF.
On the other hand, the IMF has agreed to release funds worth 6 to 7 billion dollars for the new program.
According to the government, it is inevitable to increase the prices of gas and electricity because the IMF demanded the price hike as a precondition for financial assistance.
